Overview

Vimeo app for iPhone is a database that takes video sharing on the go. As a free app, Vimeo allows the user to view video content, create a favorites list, and share videos via Airdrop. Previously, the app enabled users to create videos, edit them, and upload straight from the mobile app. After the most recent update however (4.0.5, 11/18/2013), the app activity has been thoroughly restricted to viewing and sharing only.

When users first open the app, they are introduced to

The video editor is where this app gets very interesting. The editor looks and feels like a full-blown movie editor. It has layers for video, transitions, titles and audio. Transitions are automatically added, but can be changed or deleted. When adding content, users can add video or photos, or choose to take them from within the app. Once a clip is added, you can adjust the In/Out points, the volume of the clip, the scaling, and add effects. These options are in a simple panel and are easy to figure out. To adjust the In/Out points is easily because it puts a button to edit it. Users can also drag the clip’s beginning and ends to edit it. Very Easy!!

The titles are just text overlaid on the video. Not very pleasing, but for a simple mobile editor, it works. The options seem endless for editing on a mobile phone. It does have some problems. Sometimes the app will crash, and saving is not an option. The app also drains the battery very rapidly.

When the video is done, uploading to Vimeo or exporting the video can take a while depending on the model of the device and Internet connection. I would not recommend uploading over 3G.

Overall, the app is great, I would recommend it for fun video editing, or somebody who needs something done super fast and done simply.
