Overview

Vimeo for iPhone is a brand new app on the Apple App store. The app is free and is a very attractive app. The apps main focus is to act as a mobile browser for the Vimeo site. Users can access your account information, statistics on uploaded videos, and users can browse the catalog of videos. In the recordings section, users can created new projects, or record new clips. There are a lot of options and menus to navigate through. At first, the app is a little overwhelming, but after some use, I found the app easy to navigate and use.

When users start a new project, it opens the project detail window. From that screen you can upload the video, open the editor, change the title, or simply add clips to the end of the original clip. Users can also export the video.

The video editor is where this app gets very interesting. The editor looks and feels like a full-blown movie editor. It has layers for video, transitions, titles and audio. Transitions are automatically added, but can be changed or deleted. When adding content, users can add video or photos, or choose to take them from within the app. Once a clip is added, you can adjust the In/Out points, the volume of the clip, the scaling, and add effects. These options are in a simple panel and are easy to figure out. To adjust the In/Out points is easily because it puts a button to edit it. Users can also drag the clip’s beginning and ends to edit it. Very Easy!!

The titles are just text overlaid on the video. Not very pleasing, but for a simple mobile editor, it works. The options seem endless for editing on a mobile phone. It does have some problems. Sometimes the app will crash, and saving is not an option. The app also drains the battery very rapidly.

When the video is done, uploading to Vimeo or exporting the video can take a while depending on the model of the device and Internet connection. I would not recommend uploading over 3G.

Overall, the app is great, I would recommend it for fun video editing, or somebody who needs something done super fast and done simply.
