SmugMug is an online portfolio focused on presenting photographs. It gives the flexibility and appearance that the user owns and is hosting their site, but in actuality, SmugMug is handling all the work. It has clean and stylish templates that give photographers the ability to beautifully showcase their work. SmugMug can be used by anyone, but it also has specific features for professionals who want to advertise their business and sell photos and merchandise (like puzzles, mugs, aprons, etc). Professionals can choose what products they want to sell and price their own inventory. They can also create coupons, packages, and events all through SmugMug.

What The Tool Does Well
Smugmug is integrated with WordPress, Google +, Facebook, and Twitter, so sharing with social media is easy. It backs up all uploaded images to Amazon Web Services so access to the full resolution original images are available at anytime. It has great privacy features so as password protect images, disable sharing, opt out or in of search engines, unlisting folders, galleries or pages, right click protection, and watermarking images with the user’s own personal logo. Smugmug has 24/7/365 real-human customer support, live online training events, monthly podcasts on key industry topics, interactive webinars featuring top photography pros, and community forums for feedback, tips and in-depth support. User’s can choose a predetermined template and run with it, or completely customize their gallery with HTML and CSS. Smugmug is in charge of hosting, photo printing, sizing, shipping, and receiving payment of items ordered from the user’s customers. The user only has to process and upload the photographs to the site.
What It Does Poorly
This tool is really designed for professional photographers looking to make money off their images. While it is easy and appealing for everyday use, the price is heavy for someone who isn’t making money off of it. Also, Smugmug keeps 15% of all profit of merchandise sold.
