Youtube in-site Editor Tool Review (Andy Gay)

Page history last edited by Jesus Jimenez 10 years, 5 months ago

(Revised by Yukiko Jones, Spring13) Revised by Jesus Jimenez, Fall 13

Description

Youtube's in-site video editor is an simple way to edit video that you've uploaded to Youtube. Once a video is uploaded, you may trim it to the desired length, add lighting, change the brightness/contrast, add titles, and make a host of changes to the video. You can also add some effects, photos, and background sound. This editor is not intended to substitute an actual video editor, but rather allow a user to make some last minute changes.

What the Tool Does Well

  • Free!
  • Relatively simple interface - largely drag and drop
  • Add photos to the video (must be logged in from Gmail acccount, and photos must first be uploaded online)
  • Search Creative Commons video for remix
  • Pre-selected audio for adding background music
  • Preview effects side by side with original video
  • 5 text effects
  • Can make clips private while your work is in progress
  • Work off of YouTube's cloud
  • 13 Instagram-esque filters

What it Does Poorly

  • Video must be uploaded before it can be edited
  • Not as much control as other editing programs; not as precise
  • Cannot go back to edit again once published
  • Cannot split/trim audio
  • 16 transitions (ie: star, blur, slide, fade)
