MadPad is a music app for iPhone and iPad developed by Smule inc. MadPad lets you capturing short, everyday sights and sounds and arranging them for playback at your fingertips. It helps you record every noise around you (that turn signal click-clack, that bus honk, a barking dog, a finger snap, or anything else) with short clips and arranges them into a soundboard that you can play with your fingers.
How it works
The app opens with a short tutorial, explaining the simple menu system. There are four sections: play, discover, browse and create.
Tapping create will take you to the recording interface, where it displays the video camera (you can switch between front facing and back facing). Just focus the camera on the object that you’re using to create a noise, such as piano keyboard. Before recording you can adjust how loud is your surrounding. And then tap any record button to record. MadPad automatically starts and stops the recording based on the sounds you generate. You can also import previously recorded sounds by tapping the import button. It requires 12 sounds to complete the entire soundboard. Once you finished recording, you can save what you got and start to remix your recording.
To play with the soundboard you can simply tap on the picture and make it play. You can tap fast or slow, somewhere in between, and also back and forth between two pictures. Different sounds will be produced by tapping in different ways. The app includes a powerful looping feature, and you can adjust the pitch and volume of individual sounds, too.
Using the record button up right on main screen, you can easily capture your sound remixes and save to your own device or share to YouTube. Your musical creation can also be shared with Facebook, Twitter, and email in order to let others play with your soundboards.
You can also download what others did in the discover section. This section can help you to connect to your Facebook and Twitter account to see and explore other people's sets. And the app also includes 50 sets of its own to explore, ranging from random objects to actual musical instruments.
