Audio Editor - Myna (from Aviary)

Cost: $0

This is a short review on Myna from Aviary. It’s a handy online audio editor. No software required! So no more complaining that you don’t have the this-or-that software installed. All you need is some skills and some time.

How it Works

Have you used GarageBand or ProTools? It’s a lot like GarageBand, or another multi-track audio editor. You can import audio you have created using the import feature. Compared to professional audio editors like ProTools, Myna takes a more simple approach to audio editing. If you have used ProTools before, you’ll notice a significant lack of features in Myna. But hey, it’s a free tool for the non-expert. Myna provides just enough features for  the novice audio maker.

For this example, I imported two files previously created in Roc (the music creator / sequencer application from Aviary). You can see the blue and green tracks represent the audio that I imported.

For in-track editing, highlight the portion that you would like to edit, then right-click. This will pop out a menu you can use to perform tasks on the highlighted section you selected.

If you would like to add your own audio, you can record your own (of course). Hit the record button, follow the setup instructions, and you’re on your way! In the following image, the purple section represents an audio track that I created with a microphone.

A third option for adding audio is to use the Quantumtracks library. After agreeing to their terms, you can peruse the hundreds of built-in audio samples. In my honest opinion, most of these clips are corny, but hey, whatever works!

Pros: easy to use, free, no software required

Cons: limited functionality, in-browser editing feels a little bit weird if you’re used to a stand-alone product, less stable
