Tool Overview
The two tools I reviewed where the Android applications FX Camera and Camera Illusion.
At one point in time a camera man would have a shelf full of cameras, all creating slightly different looking photo's. Smart phones now have applications that mimic these different types of cameras. These applications also let you choose the type of 'mistake' you want the camera to produce.
Old cameras reacted to different lighting condition creation sometimes blue, yellow, or green tinted images. You can specify the type of 'mistake' you want to produce with the application FXCamera, and select the type of camera you want to use. This App mimics old camera types, creating aesthetically appealing images.
In contrast, an App called Camera Illusion allows you to apply random digital effects to photographs taken. You can select from a huge list of different strange digital effects. Rather than try and mimic the look of old cameras, it pushes forward into the digital realm and adds funky effects to images.
These two apps are on opposite http://www.appbrain.com/app/camera-illusion/com.androidillusion.cameraillusion of the aesthetic spectrum. One looks back to the past and tries to keep the aesthetic of broken cameras alive. The other uses the digital platform to see what can be done to the image. Strange digital effects can be applied to images, and the final images are wholly different to any pre-digital image.
