[GrooVR] Review

by [Zachary Graham]

Description

GrooVR is a music visualization tool. Unlike other music visualizers on a 2D computer or phone screen GrooVR is a 360 degree music visualization experience. In this you can be put into several different virtual environments that react to your music with shapes and colors. many of the virtual environments are in a dark room with colors all over the room, there is also an outer space environment. In order to use it you need a new Samsung phone, Galaxy S6, S7, Note 5, or newer. You also need a Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.

Access

The GrooVR app is free but you also need the $99 Gear VR and $500+ Samsung smartphone.

Tips, tricks, and tutorials

when you first open the app you are in the default room withe the default music, you can press the back button on the gear vr to bring up the menu. you can then select a new environment or log into a music service and pick new songs. you select these things by pointing the center of your face at the thing you want to select and then taping the touch pad on the side.

What the Tool Does Well

the tool is a cool and fresh way to experience music.

you can use it with spotify and sound cloud.

you can have your own music.

there are new environments on the way.

you can look all around at whatever you want.

What it Does Poorly

it only works with spotify premium.

it is only for samsung at the moment.

there is no pandora support yet.

its only safe to use if you are sitting down.

you can not see the real world.

What happens when you...

it is almost impossible to use and try to get around. there is no way to see the real world without taking it off.

it is not very useful while laying down. you cant take advantage of the 360 and you can only see the ceiling of the virtual room because it  thinks you are looking up.
